Mapping Goodness

Have I posted that I'm the webmaster of my local American Youth Soccer League site (www.ayso324.org)? I'm not sure I have. (Actually, I'm not sure I've posted much of anything in the last few months...) Well, anyway, I've been doing it for just under a year now.

In the Fall, I totally relaunched the site, which -- although totally functional and doing the job well -- looked as though it was a refugee from around 1987. ;-)

As part of the redesign, I hooked up with the fine folks over at www.communitywalk.com, who couldn't have made it any easier to create an interactive, Google mashup of the fields where our kids play soccer all Fall and Spring. The point here is that the parents who need to find the field couldn't care less whether this thing is a "mashup" or "Web 2.0". What they know is that this is a pretty cool way to find where they have to go with little Johnny or Jane once they've got the shindguards and tiny cleats on.

Kudos to CommunityWalk for providing such a good service (I've been really remiss in not sending out props earlier). Please stop by there and click on some ads.....

Brain Age for DS is [NOT] Discriminatory ([NOR] Broken!)

UPDATE (4/17/06): According to the comment by my good buddy Zimran below, this entire post is wrong. At least it's nice to find out that us lefties can enjoy useless handheld diversions as much as the next guy!

In today's Wall Street Journal, Walt Mossberg writes about a new game for the Nintendo DS called "Brain Age." The point of this game is to give you brain teasers to work on every day in order to "lower the age of your brain." Basically, a daily workout for your gray matter.

Sounds interesting. Plays to both my love of brain teasers and fear of losing my mind....Big problem, however, is that after looking at the picture accompanying the article, I've come to the conclusion that this particular game is unusable for people like me.

Mkaf999_ptech_20060322205859Why? Because I'm left-handed.

Take a look and let me know how I'm supposed to play this thing.

Does anyone know if this game comes with a configuration option to flip the whole thing over?

If not, then This is Broken.
