Most of these are designed to enhance advertising revenue. Practices are approached for opportunities to buy featured advertising space. Some are rewarded with fawning feature articles if the purchase is large enough. Do patients read them? Sure. How much these figure into the decision they make about which doctor to see is anyone's guess. In my anecdotal experience, only a few of the doctors I know I would call are even included, and I know that quality of care has nothing to do with which doctors are featured.
